VIDUM5

At the end of the first “retroweek“, a week in which all forms of art will be said goodbye in a ritualistic way, we, the students of the final year of Unstable Media / Interactive Design (DOGtime programme, Gerrit Rietveld Academie) will present our joint manifesto.

The event will take place on thursday, 22nd of January at OCCII, Amstelveenseweg 134, Amsterdam, and will start at 20:00h

Program

• 20:00 - Doors open (free entrance)
• 20:30 - Manifesto presentation + debate with invited guests
• 22:00 - Retroweek party  (3euro entrance)

The manifesto presentation

The VIDUM manifesto gives direction to the ways in which we, VIDUM, want to develop their artistic work, and wil distance us from the traditional ways of contemporary art. The manifesto is available on this site in a dutch and an english version.

Invited guests

For the debate, we have invited several prominent figures from the art world and people professionally involved in art, to take part in a debate which will arise around this manifesto. The list of people confirmed so far:

• Susanne Jaschko - Senior curator of new media and popular culture at the Netherlands Media Art Institute.
• Klaas Kuitenbrouwer - Lecturer interactive media and various crossroads of culture and technology (Mediamatic)
• Angelo Vermeulen - Visual artist, filmmaker, writer, DJ, gamer and scientist from Belgium.
• Wim Vonk - Multimedia / graphic artist and teacher, Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam.
• Henk Loorbach - superelectric videomaker,motion graphic designer, tekenaar, animator, exotisch wetenschapper, knutselaar.
• Johan Leestemaker - Economist, professor at the university of Medellin, Colombia (on the relation between design/art and economy)
• Wim Jongedijk - filmmaker/beeldend kunstenaar
• Gijs Frieling - Schilder/beeldend kunstenaar en directer van w139

The retroweek party

After the debate, the end of the Retroweek will be celebrated with an exciting night of bands, DJ’s and performances. The retroweek was an action in which art institutions from all over Amsterdam were (forcibly) joined in a week to celebrate the “retro-ness” of all contemporary art. VIDUM confronted these institutions by tagging them with a “deelnemer retroweek” (retroweek participant) tag.

The party will extend the “retro” theme with a visual documentation of the action and other retro art footage from the net, dvd, VHS and betamax.
